Being a 19-year-old, Rosita was deeply embarrassed that her husband’s girlfriend was now a beloved leader in her husband’s cartel. She started ranting on Facebook and threatening her to no avail. The people liked her too much. Soon Rosita realized how bad she looked, so she began to complain to her father. She had no leverage with Carlos; she learned that on her wedding night and had to accommodate that he was in charge and would have girlfriends. Daddy was her only option. Therefore, she complained until he agreed.

He wasn’t happy about it either. It was unusual for a girlfriend to upstage the wife of a cartel boss. He had to admit that his money had increased with Lesha running the southern portion of the cartel, but his wife and daughter were giving him hell. He decided to summon Carlos for another meeting.

“Son, my daughter tells me she’s unhappy.”

Carlos stared coldly at Manuel. Carlos knew he was going to get chastised yet again. He hadn’t been able to locate El Lobo and now his wife wasn’t happy. Carlos was frustrated that he’d agree to such a deal.

“That’s not my problem. You wanted her married, you didn’t say happily.”

Manuel cut his eyes at Carlos, feeling as though he was being disrespectful.

“She’s not pregnant yet either. Do you not like girls?” He asked with a sly smile.

Carlos recognized it as a veiled insult. Therefore, he lit a cigarette and inhaled deeply, taking his time before answering.

“I like women, not girls.”

Manuel nodded, noting that Carlos was smart enough to avoid the trap.

Manuel decided to be direct, “Carlos, she finds it disrespectful that this negress has so much power in your life. She feels uncertain.”

Carlos nodded, “I understand, but I didn’t expect her to do this well honestly.”

“Revenues are good, everyone is making money. But if mama is not happy, nobody is happy.”

Carlos nodded and took a drag off his cigarette.

“I’m asking you man-to-man to make her quiet.”

Carlos sat and thought for a moment. He got pleasure out of how threatened Rosita was by Lesha and smiled.

“Why are you smiling.”

“Women!”

Manuel nodded, “Yes women, they are challenging, but what would life be without them.”

“True! I will go see her and make her be quiet,” said Carlos.

“Might I make a suggestion!”

“Yes, go ahead.”

“I would suggest a new capo, Chevvy Lopez, to run the south. Get Lesha to step back, let Chevvy do the heavy lifting. Let her go be a woman,” said Manuel with a smile.

Carlos nodded, knowing it was a good suggestion.

“I’ll make him a job offer!”

“No worries my son, it’s already done!”

Lesha noticed everyone at the ranch had been acting strange for days, like they knew something she didn’t, and didn’t want to drop the bad news. Even Leticia, her go-to for all things on the ranch or in Mexico for that matter, had been reserved. She’d been avoiding Lesha for two or three days. She was very aloof, when just last week she and the other women were gossiping about this and that cartel leader, and who was sleeping with who.
